Czech
Republic
The Czech Republic has only been in existence since 1993 and is one of the youngest in the family of European Countries. It is a country of amazing culture and beauty and since its entry into the EU in 2004 it is now more accessible than ever for people wishing to purchase property there. Bordering Germany to the west, Poland to the north and Austria and Hungary to the south it has become one of the most developed countries in Eastern Europe. Even though the Czech Republic ranks among the small countries its wealth of natural beauty and monuments of cultural heritage contribute greatly to its global prestige as a major cultural destination.
- Northern Moravia and Silesia • Central Moravia • Southern Moravia • The Czech-Moravian Highlands • Eastern Bohemia • Bohemian Paradise • Krkonose
In addition to the cultural capital city of Prague there are
14 tourist regions dotted with charming towns, castles and
chateaux (the most per square mile of any country in the world!),
ancient villages and, of course, many spas - all waiting to
be discovered.
Northern Moravia and Silesia -
Both are picturesque regions split by mountain ridges and rolling
hills ideal for summer vacation as well as winter with
a wide range of winter sports. With views
of the Polish lowland landscape,
Northern Moravia and Silesia have a
pensive beauty. The Valašsko
(Wallachia) is a very attractive part of
the region with its unique style of
wooden cottages and churches, as well
as its lively folklore traditions.
The
mountains of Jeseniky and Rychiebské
are the chief attraction on the western
side of the region. This area is ideal for
recreational activities in both summer
and winter offering winter sports, hiking,
mountain biking, spa cures and
relaxation. Ostrava is the centre of the
region. Its many castles,
chateaux, museums and
pilgrimage sites are some
of the most visited places
in the region.
Central Moravia - This
fertile region extends
mainly along the Morava
River. Since the 16th
century the region has
carried the name Haná. It
is famous for its sunny
climate, rich folk
costumes, its traditional
pungent cheese and a
vast number of Baroque
cathedrals, churches, monasteries and
pilgrimage sites. The whole region is
interwoven with marked hiking trails and
is ideal for cycling.
Southern Moravia
-
A mecca for wine lovers, this region is also perfect for
cyclists, hikers and history buffs. The lowlands and hillsides with extensive
vineyards create the largest part of its
territory. Wine, vineyards, wine cellars
and rich folklore are all associated with
this area. Brno with a number of
historical sites is the centre of the region.
Along the border with Austria rise the
limestone Pavlovské Hills and north of
Brno you will find the Moravian Karst
area with its maze of abysses and
caves. Local nature offers ideal
conditions for walking tours, cycling and
water sports, angling, horse riding or
mountain climbing.
The
Czech-Moravian Highlands is situated on the territory which
connects Bohemia and Moravia. This region is
one of the least densely populated and
boasts one of the cleanest environments
in the country hence its nickname "the
green heart" of the Czech Republic. It is
a region full of rugged beauty, exuding a
romanticism all of its own, ideal for
recreation and relaxation. It has been an
inspiration for many artists, painters,
sculptors, composers and writers.
Eastern Bohemia is a region of
charming lowlands and
highland ranges dotted
with historic towns, manors
and castles. There is a
wide range of sightseeing
and recreational options
sure to satisfy every visitor.
Modern architecture from
the period between the
World Wars can be seen in
the region, most notably in
the capital Hradec
Králové. The area along
the Labe (Elbe) river is
mainly flat with a warm
climate, which makes it
perfect for water sports, walking tours or
cycling. Winter sports and mountain
activities can be found in the Orlické
mountains and the area of Kralický
Snežnik. Agro-tourism, mainly focused
on traditional horse breeding is
traditional across the region.
Bohemian Paradise - A region of
dramatic landscape dotted with rock
formations and castles - perfect for
hikers. The monumental sandstone
"rock town" Prachovskéskály is located
in this region on the outskirts of the town
Jicin. The region with its bizarre rock
formations and castle ruins has long
been a favourite of artists, writers and
poets.
Krkonoše - This mountain region is an
ideal place for winter and summer
holidays.
Krkonoše (the Giant
Mountains) with its highest mountain
Snezka is the highest mountain range of
the Republic. The southern borders of
the region and the most popular resorts
are in the National Park zone. The towns
of Špindleru Mlýn and Harrachov offer
ideal conditions for winter sports. In
Harrochov there is a large ski-jump and
the area offers excellent conditions for
downhill skiing and cross-country skiers.
In the summer, lovers of walking tours
will appreciate the marked hiking trails
which lead along the mountain ridges as
well as glacial valleys with waterfalls.
The main Krkonoše resorts offer
comfortable accommodation and plenty
of facilities for various sports.
